On Tuesday morning, Mozilla announced Firefox 104.0, the latest incremental improvement to the open-source, cross-platform web browser. This four-week Firefox browser update for this development cycle doesn’t feature any super exciting improvements, opting instead to continue gradually enhancing the open-source web browser in detail.
The most exciting change in Mozilla Firefox 104 is that the main UI itself will now implement power-saving actions in minimized and non-foreground states. By throttling the Firefox UI itself, which is similar to its handling of background tabs, it can help improve performance by reducing system load when minimized or behind other windows, which in turn can improve battery life/power efficiency.
Firefox 104 also adds subtitles to Disney+ picture-in-picture mode, the PDF browser now supports text writing/drawing/signatures, and other small changes. For developers, Firefox 104 adds several new methods that allow page developers to easily find the last matching element or its index, the SVGStyleElement.disabled property can now be used to enable/disable an SVG style element, on Linux Marionette minimize/restore windows can also be more stable and faster.
Ahead of the official announcement this morning, users can download the Firefox 104.0 installation files from the Mozilla.org page.
At the same time, Firefox 105 Beta 1 has also been released. The details are currently unknown. Interested users can download and install:
