On October 05, Mozilla Firefox officially released Firefox 82.0 Beta 7. The biggest highlight of the new version is the addition of the function of blocking drive-by downloads.
The so-called drive-by downloading refers to the use of a function called sandboxed iframes to attack. When a user visits a website embedded with malicious code, it will use the legal function of the browser to automatically download the file or prompt the download to induce the user to run a malicious program.
It is reported that Google Chrome started to block sandboxed iframes downloads from Chrome 73 released in 2019, and this option was completely removed in Chrome 83 this May.
