TSMC has officially announced the launch of the N4P process technology, which is a performance-focused enhanced version of the 5nm technology platform. According to reports, N4P has joined the industry’s most advanced and broadest combination of cutting-edge technology processes. With N5, N4, N3 and the newly added N4P, TSMC customers will have a variety of compelling choices in terms of power, performance, area and cost of their products.
As the third major improvement of TSMC’s 5nm family, N4P will provide 11% performance improvement over the original N5 technology and 6% improvement over N4 . Compared with N5, N4P will also provide a 22% increase in power efficiency and a 6% increase in transistor density. In addition, N4P reduces process complexity and shortens wafer cycle time by reducing the number of masks.
Dr. Kevin Zhang, Senior Vice President of Business Development at TSMC, said: “Through N4P, TSMC has strengthened its advanced logic semiconductor technology portfolio, each with a unique combination of performance, power efficiency, and cost. N4P is optimized for HPC and mobile applications. The program provides a further enhanced advanced technology platform. Among all the variants of N5, N4 and N3 technologies, our customers will have the greatest flexibility and unparalleled selection of the best combination of product attributes.”
