Apple Watch series 5 leads in North American market

According to Canalys, Apple will continue to dominate the North American wearable device market in the second quarter of 2020, with a year-on-year growth of 9%.

In the second quarter of 2020, shipments of wearable devices in the North American market increased by 10%, but the market value remained unchanged from the same period last year.

The rise of low-end fitness trackers meant that the average selling price of wearable devices dropped by 11% to $235. The growth of basic equipment offset the third consecutive quarter of decline in smartwatches in the United States.

Besides, Apple Watch Series 5 is the best-selling Smart Watch in North America, matching last year’s Series 4 model. In addition, demand for the lower-priced Apple Watch Series 3 also increased by 30%.

IDC’s recent research also shows Apple’s dominant position in the global wearable device market. North America is one of the two regions that have shown continued consumer demand for wearable devices and has grown sequentially. Canalys predicts that by 2021, medical-oriented equipment will push certain products to a higher level, thereby forming a greater distinction between leisure fitness equipment and equipment that provide advanced health-tracking functions.

The upcoming new Apple Watch will contribute to this by providing new health tracking features such as blood oxygen monitoring.
