As early as December last year, Google showed how to use a single camera to create a deep sense of AR augmented reality, and today, the ARcore depth API is finally online on Android, and multiple third-party applications have already begun to use.
Although other manufacturers are also trying to add AR functions to their products, most of them are through additional hardware equipment, such as adding ToF modules, using dual cameras and other methods to achieve the perception and creation of deep sense images, and single-camera because of There is not enough information, so it is difficult to judge how far the objects in the screen area from the camera.
Google uses a dynamic depth algorithm to achieve the creation of a deep-sensing image with a single camera, and it has good accuracy. Make sure that the virtual objects are properly blocked, not floating in space, or placed at a position that is impossible to place on the physical level. It is reported that with the release of ARCore version 1.18 (Google Play Services for AR), the Depth API will be available on “hundreds of millions of compatible Android devices.” Google will first demonstrate this feature through AR Animals in Search, after which new partners will demonstrate the technology.
However, as a partner in the development of technology, Snapchat and Samsung have already started to use the functions of the Depth API. Snapchat has updated multiple filters to take advantage of the Depth API to achieve AR effects for single-camera phones.
Samsung will use the Deep API in its Quick Measure application on the Galaxy Note 10+ and S20 Ultra. Although it already has a ToF sensor, it can further improve the quality, reduce the scanning time, and speed up the measurement by combining with a new algorithm. Samsung The application will be updated within a few months.
At the same time, Google Creative also showed new gameplay, such as the use of Depth API to play dominoes. In the Deep Lab application provided by Google, other applications of the Depth API were used during naval warfare, such as realistic physics, surface interaction effects, and environment traversal functions.
