With the Mate Xs, Huawei has managed to draw attention to itself, presenting the most impressive foldable device so far, although screen protection is an issue that the company definitely needs to address. However, it seems that we will see the opponent of the Galaxy Z Flip, in a category that Samsung played almost alone, especially after the problems of Moto Razr.
According to the Slashleaks website’s OD RODENT950, Huawei will release a foldable clamshell, called Mate V, which will have several similarities to the Galaxy Z Flip. Although we don’t know much about the device, the source of the website states that it will use an under-screen front camera, which if done will definitely give the device a lead in the battle with the Galaxy Z Flip.
Huawei foldable clam phone possibly called
Mate V, the phone would look very much like the Z Flip but may have a camera under the screen instead of a hole.— Teme (特米)😷 (@RODENT950) July 6, 2020
The trademark Mate V passed today by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), something that was brought to light by the website LetsGoDigital, further strengthening the above. Although the trademark doesn’t reveal much, the name alone means something special: The Mate S was the company’s first smartphone with a touch screen display, while the Mate X was the company’s first foldable. Unfortunately at this point, it is too early to say for sure. We may not even see the Mate V this year, especially if it does use an under-screen selfie. But what we expect is a real competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
