Apple is expected to release the 5nm A14 chipset produced by TSMC later this year to support the iPhone 12 series. Now, according to a new news from Twitter user @L0vetodream, the Taiwanese chipmaker will ship 80 million A14 chips to Apple in 2020.
According to reports, Apple will take a major update on its iPhone 12 series this year. First of all, these phones will become the company’s first mobile phones that support 5G. Secondly, it is expected that they will no longer come with chargers and EarPods. The latest news shows that TSMC will produce 80 million 5nm A14 chips for Apple this year. But this is contrary to a recent report showing that the Cupertino-based company will only ship 15-20 million iPhone 12 devices by 2020.
So, if Apple shipped less than half (80 million), why should it order so many A14 chips? It may be because the company will use the same chip for the new iPad Pro and ARM Mac, or A14X.
